Job Title: Technical Lead – Water/Wastewater Projects (Hybrid)
Salary: £65,000 – £85,000 per annum (depending on experience)
We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated Technical Lead to join our dynamic team and provide leadership and guidance on a range of water and/or wastewater projects. This is a hybrid position offering flexibility in working location, with the opportunity to lead and shape the future of water and wastewater solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
As the Technical Lead, you will provide technical guidance to a multidisciplinary design team, ensuring successful delivery of complex water and wastewater projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a delivery team, providing technical leadership and mentoring to ensure the successful completion of projects.
- Working closely with the Project Design Lead and key stakeholders to drive value, innovation, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensuring that designs meet customer and regulatory requirements, and that expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
- Providing expert technical advice on design calculations, specifications, datasheets, and other technical content within the contracts.
- Approving designs and ensuring that technical governance and quality assurance (QA) procedures are adhered to within the team.
- Managing the financial aspects of projects to ensure delivery within budget and in line with design expectations.
- Addressing complex design issues and offering innovative solutions to overcome challenges.
- Proactively managing design programmes to ensure timely delivery, identifying any potential delays early and taking corrective action as necessary.
Stakeholder & Customer Management
- Liaising effectively with stakeholders, preparing reports, and presenting findings as required.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, ensuring the design meets both customer and regulatory expectations.
- Representing the company at technical and commercial conferences, preparing papers and press releases to raise the company’s profile.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Proven experience in delivering water and/or wastewater projects in the UK water industry, on time, within budget, and in compliance with relevant quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles within your specific discipline (Civil/Mechanical/EICA/Process/Network Modelling/Hydraulics).
- Experience working at a Principal/Senior Engineer level or equivalent, with in-depth knowledge of solution development and design.
- A thorough understanding of the commercial operating environments of consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Familiarity with the AMP cycle and the audit processes for design, construction, and operational activities.
- Knowledge of technical standards, risk management, and balancing safety, customer expectations, compliance, and costs.
- An accredited MEng/BEng/BSc or HNC in an Engineering, Environmental, or numerate science-related subject.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant Engineering or Scientific Institution.
Desirable:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more areas of water or wastewater design.
